Kelcey is less than 2 weeks out from her 2nd 50k! To say this is a big accomplishment is an understatement. While I plan to do a full recap of her next 50k (I will be running it with her!) I figured I would post a Q&A about her last experience and how she is feeling leading up to her next one!
A little backstory first, if you didn't already know, Kelcey has lost 150lbs! She started as a Diet Doc client on January 1, 2018. She is proof that success can come from a New Year's Resolution. She started out focusing on nutrition. She tracked her intake and checked in each week at my office. She never missed a check in. She had lost more than 100lbs before she started running. First down the driveway and back, eventually she aimed to run a mile a day. Now, she's running 50k's and inspiring others! When I asked her about her November race, here is what she said:
How long did you train for your event?
I trained for 1 month but had a good base going into it.
(P.S. Kelcey had been running continuously prior to this. She just didn't have any intention of doing this race until I invited her along last minute. She had been joining me on many of my weekend long runs and been doing a lot of backpacking on her own/with another friend)
What was the biggest challenge you faced?
The biggest challenge was believing that I could actually do it.
Did you find yourself questioning why you signed up at any point?
I waited until 2 weeks prior to the race to sign up so I didn't have time to question it.
Did having a coach help you? Or do you think you could have accomplished the same thing without?
I did have a coach and there is no way I would have tried without you!
Were there any moments in your training that you wondered if the coaching was enough? (It’s common to wonder, is this enough? Did you experience that?)
I didn't train long enough to wonder if what I was doing was enough.
How did you feel about your event in the end?
I felt so accomplished to have finished the race. I am so glad I had the opportunity to run it.
(See a photo from our race on the home page!)
When I asked Kelcey about her upcoming race:
How long did you train for your event?
I decided to run another 50K at the end of December/first of January with a June target date. Training started ramping up in March when we nailed down a race.
(P.S. We took a little more time deciding which race to do. Our first race we had all spring, summer, and fall to run outside on the trails. We knew that doing a June race we wouldn't have that advantage, so we had to pick a race accordingly!!)
What was the biggest challenge you faced?
The biggest challenge so far has been allowing myself to eat more food to fuel my long runs.
Did you find yourself questioning why you signed up at any point?
I have not questioned why I signed up at all so far. But knowing that the 25K is an option is nice... hehe
(P.S. It has since been determined will WILL in fact be running the 50K)
Did having a coach help you? Or do you think you could have accomplished the same thing without?
I do have a coach, and a really good one at that, I wouldn't want to try to accomplish it without you! : )
(P.S. Thanks Kelc! It helps to have a complaint client)
Were there any moments in your training that you wondered if the coaching was enough? (It’s common to wonder, is this enough? Did you experience that?)
I have not wondered if having you as a coach is enough, I have accomplished all of the goals I have worked with you on so far and I know you know what you're doing.
How did you feel about your event in the end?
To be determined....
(Check back after June 12th!!)
