Episode 7: Antelope Canyon 50k and Angel's Landing

Writer: bkhgirlbkhgirl

What an incredible weekend! Back in December, Sam and I decided to sign up for the Antelope Canyon 50K. He knows that getting away from the cold weather, even for just a weekend, helps with my general dislike of winter. I chose this race as one of the five events I need to complete this year to collect running stones for UTMB (check out my previous YouTube video if you're not sure what that means!). I used the Antelope 50K as a training race for my next 100K, and I was able to collect two stones in the process. Sam decided to sign up too, making this the only race we’re running together this year. Despite him encouraging me to leave him behind I chose to stick together. And I have zero regrets — it was a fun, once-in-a-lifetime experience with slot canyons, ladders, ropes, and even a via ferrata! Sam took first place in his age group, and I ended up in 10th for females — funny since 10th has been my spot in several races lately! After the race, we headed to Zion National Park for more adventure. We stayed at the lodge, hiked Angels Landing, and continued on the West Rim Trail for a total of 12 miles and 3,780 feet of elevation gain. It was an unforgettable weekend filled with stunning views. I didn’t fully escape the cold and wind though — I ended up keeping my jacket and gloves on for about 29 miles of the 50K (which ended up being 34 miles!). The next day, we encountered some snow on the trail too. Despite the wind and cooler temps, the sunshine made it all worthwhile. With just one month until my next race, which features 11 waterfalls (I think?), I might not stop for as many views next time, but who knows! And huge thanks to Sam for joining me in my crazy adventures (and helping organize everything). I’ll keep packing your food, and you keep booking our trips! 😊 Big shout out to Anne, my  @CTS_TrainRight  running coach for making sure I was ready for this race!
